Step 8

Understand item types

Video coming soon

An item’s type follows from the characteristics chosen when it is created.

  1. 1

    Learn the four types

    • Racine (Parent): a top-level item that groups variants, with no stock of its own.
    • Variante (Variant): a version of a parent item along a single dimension.
    • Unique (Standalone): a physical item with no variants.
    • Accès numérique (Digital access): an account, licence or code, with no physical stock or units.
  2. 2

Say whether the item must come back

For a physical item, ‘Avec retour’ (Returnable) means it must be returned. ‘Consommable’ (Consumable) means it is given out with no return expected.

  3. 3

    Choose stock tracking

A tracked non-consumable is managed as numbered units. A tracked consumable is managed by quantity. Without tracking, there is no available quantity and no stock alert.

  4. 4

    Understand variants

Variants inherit the ‘Consommable’ (Consumable) and ‘Suivre le stock’ (Track stock) choices from their parent. Each tracked variant has its own stock and, where set, its own threshold. Assigning from a parent item requires you to choose a variant.
